Hi!!! Welcome to the first post on Funky Giraffes! Funky Giraffes gets its name from a very good friend of mine that isn’t very funky and doesn’t have any strong emotions towards giraffes. One day, we spent hours upon hours in a Books-A-Million, killing time on a slow day. The longer I spent in there, the more and more I felt as though books were my long lost passion. I wanted to read everything in sight, I wanted to start a book club. I wanted to rejoin BookTok and become a BookTuber. I was possessed by Books-A-Million. As we sat there, I asked him what I should name the new Instagram page I found myself making. We threw out ideas back and forth, all unoriginal and used. Williannysbooks, Williannyslibrary, Whatswilliannyreading. Nothing really interesting or fun. I wanted fun. I told him I wanted something funky. I love funky things- music, clothes, the word itself. He sat for a second and he thought of the first silly thing he could and he said “Funky….Giraffes….” and I lit up.

If you didn’t know, I collect giraffes. I have my whole life, and as of writing, I’m up to around 30-40, ranging from stuffed animals to figures to paintings, and all kinds of other things (including a pair of adorable heels). Giraffes are kind of my thing. I get a lot of them as gifts because people know I love them, which makes them even more special.

While I didn’t start my book club or go viral discussing ACOTAR for the hundredth time on TikTok (all love to ACOTAR, but you know what I mean), I loved the name Funky Giraffes. It just feels so me. And late last night, I had an idea. Scrolling away on Instagram, I thought why should I limit myself? Why should I have a dedicated space online to just talk about books? There’s a million things I want to talk about. Yes books included, but also I want to talk about how giraffes have almost made their way to the endangered list, and I want to talk about how much I love being a Disney Adult. I want to have a space to share the stories I write and the videos I like to make on my little camcorder I got on a whim when I broke my camera the day I went to the eras tour (Tampa night one if you’re curious). So, here’s my brain baby- Funky Giraffes. I hope you enjoying reading and listening and watching as much as I’ll love creating. Also, stay tuned for some special features from my talented friends!
